Modi inaugurates India's first greenfield refinery in Rajasthan worth Rs 1.06 lakh crore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a massive industrial complex in Balotra featuring India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical facility. He also inaugurated Jodhpur Airport's new terminal and appointed 54,000 Rajasthan government employees in a single event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a transformative Rs 1.06 lakh crore industrial project in Balotra, Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in India's energy infrastructure development. The centrepiece of this inauguration was India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex, a facility designed to strengthen the nation's refining capacity and reduce dependence on imports.
During the ceremony, Modi dedicated the entire portfolio of projects to the people of Rajasthan. The greenfield refinery represents a major investment in domestic petrochemical production, combining both refining and petrochemical manufacturing operations at a single location. This integrated approach is expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce transportation costs. Alongside the refinery inauguration, the Prime Minister inaugurated a new terminal at Jodhpur Airport, boosting connectivity to the region and enhancing air travel accessibility for residents across western Rajasthan.
Modi also announced the launch of the Modified UDAN scheme during the event, a revamped version of the government's aviation scheme aimed at connecting tier-2 and tier-3 cities with affordable air transport. The scheme is expected to enhance regional connectivity and promote inclusive growth across India's aviation sector. This initiative aligns with the government's broader vision to develop infrastructure in underdeveloped regions.
In another significant administrative move, Modi handed over appointment letters to 54,000 Rajasthan government employees, underscoring the government's commitment to employment generation and public service expansion. These appointments span various departments and represent a substantial boost to the state's workforce capacity.
The Prime Minister used the occasion to highlight the government's track record of project completion and its push toward self-reliance in critical sectors. The greenfield refinery project exemplifies this vision, as it will reduce India's reliance on imported refined products and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across Rajasthan. Officials stated that the facility will have the capacity to process crude oil into multiple refined products while simultaneously manufacturing petrochemicals used in industries ranging from textiles to pharmaceuticals.
This development is expected to position Rajasthan as a major petroleum and petrochemical hub in India, attracting ancillary industries and generating substantial economic activity in the region over the coming years.
