Aadhaar App Introduces Free Email Update Feature For Six Months

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a new feature allowing citizens to update their Aadhaar information via email through the official Aadhaar App, completely free of charge for the first six months. The service becomes available from July 1, 2026, and is designed to simplify the process of maintaining accurate personal records on India's largest biometric database.

This email-based update mechanism will be exclusively available through the Aadhaar mobile application, ensuring a streamlined and user-friendly experience. The six-month complimentary period is intended to encourage widespread adoption and make the update process more accessible to Aadhaar holders across the country. After the initial free period concludes, the authority is expected to announce pricing details for continued access to this service.

Keeping Aadhaar information current is crucial for citizens as the digital identity serves as the foundation for various government benefits, banking services, and official documentation. Many residents struggle with outdated addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses linked to their Aadhaar, which can create complications when accessing services. By introducing this convenient email-based alternative, UIDAI aims to reduce the need for in-person visits to enrollment centers.

The initiative aligns with the government's push toward digital accessibility and self-service platforms. Citizens can now update their information without geographical constraints, making it particularly beneficial for those living in remote areas or with mobility challenges. This feature demonstrates UIDAI's commitment to modernizing India's identity infrastructure and enhancing citizen convenience through technology.
