Aadhaar App Now Allows Users to Update Email Address Directly

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a convenient digital feature that permits Aadhaar holders to modify their registered email address using the Aadhaar mobile application, eliminating the need for in-person visits to enrollment centres.

This new functionality represents another step forward in UIDAI's efforts to streamline identity document management and reduce administrative burden on citizens. The feature integrates seamlessly into the existing Aadhaar app ecosystem, which already offers residents the ability to download their digital Aadhaar, lock or unlock their biometric data, and manage other critical identity information from their smartphones.

The process of updating email credentials through the app follows a secure verification protocol designed to protect user privacy and prevent unauthorized modifications. Users can access this feature by navigating to the appropriate section within the Aadhaar application and following the guided steps to confirm their identity and submit the new email address. The system then verifies the change through the updated contact information, ensuring that the registered details remain current and accessible.

This development proves particularly beneficial for residents across India who have changed their email addresses or wish to update outdated contact information linked to their Aadhaar records. Previously, such updates required individuals to visit UIDAI enrollment centres in person, submit applications, and wait for processing periods that could extend across several weeks. The digital alternative significantly reduces time investment and simplifies administrative procedures for millions of cardholders.

The UIDAI continues to expand the Aadhaar application's capabilities, focusing on delivering essential identity management services through mobile platforms. This initiative aligns with the government's broader digitalization agenda, which emphasizes citizen convenience and reducing dependence on physical infrastructure for routine administrative tasks. As more features become available through digital channels, the Aadhaar app is positioned to become an increasingly comprehensive tool for identity verification and document management across the country.
