Large tree falls on Dadar road near flower market, traffic disrupted

A towering tree came crashing down onto a major road adjacent to Dadar's Meenatai Thackeray Flower Market in the early hours of Saturday, disrupting vehicular movement in the area and prompting an immediate response from city authorities.

The incident occurred without warning, with the large tree suddenly toppling across the roadway. The Mumbai Fire Brigade and officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) rushed to the scene within minutes of receiving alerts. Their prompt action proved crucial in preventing potential injuries and minimising congestion on what is typically a busy commercial thoroughfare near the popular flower market.

The exact cause of the tree's collapse remains under investigation, though heavy winds or structural weakness could be contributing factors. Emergency teams worked systematically to remove the fallen trunk and branches from the road surface, clearing debris and securing the area to allow traffic to resume. The operation involved coordination between multiple civic agencies to ensure both safety and swift restoration of normal road conditions.

Fortunately, no persons were injured in the incident, despite the tree's considerable size and weight. The early morning timing—when traffic volumes are typically lower than during peak hours—likely contributed to the absence of casualties. Dadar is a densely populated residential and commercial area in central Mumbai, and any road obstruction can quickly impact commuter movement and business operations.

BMC officials have indicated that efforts to fully restore normal traffic flow on the affected route are continuing. The incident once again highlights the importance of regular tree maintenance and inspection across the city, particularly during monsoon seasons when heavy rainfall and gusty winds increase the risk of such incidents. Residents in the area have been advised to exercise caution and use alternative routes while clearance work concludes.
