BJP leader, aide booked for molesting doctor, threatening staff at MP hospital
A BJP leader and his associate face criminal charges after allegedly molesting a female doctor and threatening hospital staff with gunfire at a medical college in Sagar. The incident sparked a major protest by healthcare workers demanding arrests and improved security.
A BJP leader and an associate have been booked by police for allegedly molesting a female postgraduate doctor, abusing hospital staff, and making threats of violence at Bundelkhand Medical College in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred when the two men attempted to secure admission for a patient and escalated into a serious confrontation with medical personnel.
During the altercation, the BJP leader and his aide allegedly physically molested the female doctor and verbally abused other hospital staff members. Most alarmingly, they reportedly threatened to shoot the healthcare workers, using the Hindi phrase 'Goli maar denge' (we will shoot you). The aggressive behaviour and threatening language created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation within the hospital premises, prompting immediate action from the medical community.
The incident triggered a strong and widespread response from medical and nursing staff at the college. Hundreds of healthcare workers staged a massive protest, demanding the immediate arrest of both accused individuals and highlighting their ongoing safety concerns within the hospital. The demonstration brought a significant portion of hospital services to a halt as doctors and nurses withdrew work to press their demands and draw attention to the deteriorating security situation faced by medical professionals.
Hospital administration responded to the escalating situation by providing assurances to the protesting staff that action would be taken against the accused. These commitments were sufficient to convince workers to resume essential services, though tensions remained high. However, medical and nursing staff made it clear that their patience is limited, warning that further agitation and work stoppages would follow if the accused are not arrested promptly by law enforcement authorities.
The incident reflects a broader pattern of increasing violence and harassment against healthcare workers in India. Medical professionals have repeatedly expressed concerns about their safety while performing duties, particularly during patient admissions and emergency situations. This incident at Sagar's medical college underscores the urgent need for improved security measures and stronger legal protections for hospital staff across the country.
