The Government Shri Ahilya Central Library in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, will soon extend its operating hours to provide a better study environment for competitive exam aspirants.

This decision was made at a meeting of the library's advisory committee, chaired by Divisional Commissioner Bhaskar Lakshkar, on Saturday.

Lakshkar instructed officials to open the library earlier and extend its closing time at night, taking into account the needs of students preparing for competitive examinations.

He also interacted with students, seeking their suggestions on how to improve study facilities.

To enhance accessibility, the Commissioner directed the library management to create a digital catalogue of books and journals, allowing readers to check the available collection from home.

This catalogue will be made available to the public or integrated into the ORA software.

Additionally, Lakshkar ordered the mapping of books purchased or acquired by the committee over the past 10 years.

A separate section will be dedicated to rare and valuable old books, gazettes, and journals, with special arrangements for their preservation and monitoring.
