MP Police To Launch Portal For 4,000 Court Cases

The Police Headquarters in Madhya Pradesh is planning to launch a portal to track around 4,000 ongoing court cases. This move comes after the department faced several contempt of court orders due to delays in responding to court notices.

The portal aims to provide timely alerts to officials in the legal wing, enabling them to file replies to courts on time. Currently, the PHQ handles over 50 cases daily, which are submitted to various courts across the state. However, many cases go unnoticed, resulting in the court serving notices to the PHQ.

According to Special Director General (Administration) Adarsh Katiyar, the police department is working with the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Department to develop the portal. The system will be based on the Case Management and Tracking System used by the advocate general.

Around 4% of the state's police personnel are currently entangled in legal cases, with contempt charges filed in approximately 200 cases. The police force has around 1.06 lakh personnel, and many have filed cases against their own department, ranging from district and sessions courts to the Supreme Court.

The need for a portal has become increasingly important, as police personnel often face punishment and subsequently challenge departmental actions in court. Additionally, many personnel who are acquitted by courts have to navigate the system to regain employment.
