Yumit Kumar Wins Grand Gold Maestro Title

On Thursday, 16 of India's best bartenders gathered in Mumbai to compete in the first-ever Bar Maestro competition. The event was organized by ABD Maestro and Tulleeho, a beverage educator, to celebrate India's top bar talent.

The competition started with 350 entries from across the country, from which 160 were shortlisted for the second round. The top 16 finalists then competed for the title of Grand Gold Maestro at the Grand Finale in IFBE, Mumbai.

The core of the competition pushed the finalists to create original cocktails inspired by the five elements of nature – Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. They had to build their drinks around a base of three contemporary Indian spirits and incorporate hyper-regional Indian botanicals, local spicing, and native coastal flora.

The finalists' cocktails were judged by a panel of industry heavyweights, including pioneer mixologist Shatbhi Basu, culinary maverick Gresham Fernandes, and Tulleeho Founder-CEO Vikram Achanta. They evaluated each creation on technical precision, flavor balance, creative storytelling, and presentation under intense time pressure.

Yumit Kumar from The First Floor in Delhi won the first-ever title of Grand Gold Maestro. His winning cocktail impressed the judges with its ability to bring together all five elements of nature in a single, spirit-forward cocktail.

Kumar's win is a significant achievement, especially given the complexity of the brief. He said, 'It feels incredibly special, having competed with some of the finest bartenders in the country. After exploring so many techniques throughout my bartending journey, I chose to return to my roots of simplicity.'

The Bar Maestro competition is a first-of-its-kind national-level bartending competition in India. It aims to celebrate and recognize the country's top bar talent. The event was a huge success, with 350 bartenders participating from across the country.

The competition also showcased the growing interest in mixology in India. The finalists' cocktails were a testament to the creativity and innovation of Indian bartenders. The event was a great platform for them to showcase their skills and compete with the best in the industry.

In the end, Yumit Kumar's simplicity and creativity won over the judges, and he was crowned the Grand Gold Maestro. His win is an inspiration to aspiring bartenders in India, and it highlights the growing importance of mixology in the country's beverage industry.

The Bar Maestro competition is expected to become an annual event, providing a platform for Indian bartenders to showcase their skills and compete with the best in the industry. It will be interesting to see how the competition evolves in the future and what new talents it will discover.
