Indore Collects 2.196 Tonnes Of Plastic Waste

Indore, a city in Madhya Pradesh, has successfully collected 2.196 tonnes of single-use plastic waste in just 12 days. The initiative, called Aadha Kilo Plastic Lao, Ek Paudha Le Jao, was launched by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on August 20 and concluded on August 31.

The campaign was conducted across 15 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centres in the city, where residents could exchange their plastic waste for saplings. A total of 4,644 residents and 61 public representatives participated in the drive, which distributed 4,041 saplings.

The closing ceremony of the campaign was held at Regional Park, where participants brought 360 kg of plastic waste and received 600 saplings in return. A unique fish-shaped Waste-to-Art installation was set up to store the collected plastic waste.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava felicitated the participants with the Green Warrior Medal through the Government of India's MyBharat Portal. He emphasized the importance of linking plastic waste management with afforestation, stating that it would help create environmentally responsible citizens.

The campaign also recognized the participation of five local schools, which played an active role in the initiative. Additional Commissioner Prakhar Singh assured that all the collected plastic waste had been sent to designated recycling streams.
