Pimpri-Chinchwad Hit By Water, Power Outages Amid Heavy Rains
Heavy rainfall in Pune causes water and power outages. Relief from water crisis, but disruptions persist.

Heavy rainfall in the Pawana Dam catchment area has brought significant relief to Pimpri-Chinchwad's water crisis, but it has also caused disruptions to water supply and electricity in several parts of the city since Monday morning. The Pawana Dam received 426 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, resulting in a sharp rise in water storage from 27.62% to 55.07%. This increase has eased concerns over water availability after the reservoir had dropped to just 16% last month.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced that water lifting operations at the Ravet water lifting centre have been stopped due to a power outage, affecting water supply across parts of the city. Pumping at the Sector 23 water purification plant has also been shut down. The PCMC has stated that water lifting will resume once power supply is restored at the Ravet centre, and water supply will then be restored in phases. The civic body has appealed to residents to use the available water sparingly until normal supply resumes.
The heavy rainfall has also caused disruptions to electricity supply in several flood-affected areas. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has shut down power supply in these areas as a safety measure, after floodwater entered electrical installations and power infrastructure. In the Rajgurunagar division, power supply to 569 transformers was shut down, including transformers in Chakan, Chakan MIDC, Wadgaon Maval, Lonavala, Talegaon, and Rajgurunagar. Power was later restored to two feeders in Chakan city.
The situation in Pimpri-Chinchwad remains critical, with nearly 1,900 people already shifted from flood-prone areas. Schools are shut, and a Red Alert is in place, with more rain forecast. The PCMC is working to restore normalcy to the city, but the situation is being closely monitored. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and follow the instructions of the authorities.
The heavy rainfall has also caused damage to property and infrastructure in the city. A tree came crashing down on an elderly scooter rider on Kunal Icon Road, Pimple Saudagar, leaving him seriously injured. This incident highlights the dangers posed by heavy monsoon rains and the need for residents to be cautious.
As the situation in Pimpri-Chinchwad continues to unfold, the city's preparedness to handle the situation is being put to the test. The PCMC and other authorities are working to restore normalcy to the city, but the situation remains critical. Residents are advised to stay safe and follow the instructions of the authorities.
In conclusion, the heavy rainfall in Pimpri-Chinchwad has brought relief from the water crisis, but it has also caused significant disruptions to water supply and electricity. The situation remains critical, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions and follow the instructions of the authorities. The PCMC and other authorities are working to restore normalcy to the city, and the situation is being closely monitored.
