Mumbai Water Stock Reaches 95.22%

Mumbai's water stock has increased to 95.22% of the total live storage capacity as of August 23, 2026. The city's seven lakes now hold 13,78,143 million litres of water supply.

This increase marks a rise of 0.53 percentage points from the previous day's 94.69%. The Hydraulic Engineer's Department reported that the total useful water content in Mumbai's seven reservoirs stood at 13,78,143 million litres against the total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 million litres.

Among the major reservoirs, Modak Sagar and Vehar are at 100% of their useful content capacity. Tansa is at 99.34%, while Tulsi stands at 99.35%. Middle Vaitarna has recorded 95.29% of its useful storage, while Upper Vaitarna is at 89.32%. Bhatsa, the largest of the seven reservoirs, is currently at 95.14%.

The reservoirs have continued to receive substantial rainfall during the monsoon. On Sunday, Upper Vaitarna recorded 45 mm of rainfall, while Tansa received 14 mm, Middle Vaitarna 16 mm, Bhatsa 19 mm, Vehar 9 mm and Tulsi 22 mm. Modak Sagar recorded 20 mm of rainfall.

Several lakes have also been overflowing this monsoon. Vehar began overflowing on July 7, Tulsi on July 7, Tansa on July 22 and Modak Sagar on July 23.

The sustained rise in water levels has strengthened Mumbai's water security, with the seven reservoirs now holding more than 95% of their combined live storage capacity. The Hydraulic Engineer's Department continues to monitor lake levels, inflows and dam operations as the monsoon progresses.
