Mumbai Bridge Cost Rises To ₹709.16 Crore

The cost of the proposed cable-stayed bridge connecting Andheri West with Goregaon West in Mumbai has increased to ₹709.16 crore. The rise in cost is due to the relocation of Tata Power's 110-kV transmission line and towers, which were found to be obstructing the project.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved an additional ₹24.58 crore for the relocation work, up from the initial provision of ₹10 crore. Tata Power will execute the specialized relocation work.

The proposed bridge will provide an alternative north-south route between Goregaon and Oshiwara, easing traffic pressure on S.V. Road, Link Road, and the Lokhandwala Circle stretch. Preliminary works, including environmental clearances, surveys, geotechnical investigations, designs, and pile foundation planning, were completed before the construction began. Currently, site leveling, demarcation, piling, and a temporary access bridge are underway.

The bridge alignment clashes with Tata Power's 110-kV transmission infrastructure, necessitating its relocation. The BMC provided coordinates for an alternative site, and Tata Power submitted the relocation plan. After examination, the BMC recommended further action, and Tata Power will undertake the relocation work.
