India Achieves Milestone In Water Jet Production

In a significant development, the Factory Acceptance Trials (FATs) of indigenously manufactured Marine Jet Power (MJP) waterjets were successfully conducted at MJP India, Goa. The trials were witnessed by senior officials of the Indian Coast Guard, Classification Society, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.

This achievement marks a major milestone in India's pursuit of maritime self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The facility in Goa was established through a Transfer of Technology (ToT) arrangement with MJP AB Sweden and serves as a dedicated manufacturing and testing centre for advanced waterjet propulsion systems in India.

The 14 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) project of the Indian Coast Guard is the first indigenous shipbuilding project to be fitted with indigenously manufactured MJP waterjet propulsion systems. The project is being constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

The successful completion of the inaugural FATs signifies a major step towards the indigenisation of a critical marine propulsion system that was previously imported. This achievement is expected to strengthen the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem and enhance supply chain resilience.

By reducing dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), India can improve lifecycle maintenance support and contribute significantly to the operational readiness and sustainment of future Indian Coast Guard platforms. The indigenisation of waterjet propulsion systems will also have a positive impact on the country's defence manufacturing sector.

The Indian Coast Guard's 14 FPVs project is a significant undertaking, and the successful integration of indigenously manufactured waterjet propulsion systems will enhance the vessels' performance and efficiency. The project demonstrates the government's commitment to promoting indigenous defence manufacturing and reducing reliance on imported technology.

The Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative aims to promote self-reliance in various sectors, including defence manufacturing. The successful conduct of the FATs of indigenously manufactured MJP waterjets is a significant step towards achieving this goal.

The development of indigenous waterjet propulsion systems will have far-reaching implications for India's maritime security and defence capabilities. It will enable the country to design and manufacture advanced vessels with improved performance and efficiency, reducing dependence on foreign technology.

In conclusion, the successful conduct of the FATs of indigenously manufactured MJP waterjets marks a significant milestone in India's pursuit of maritime self-reliance. The achievement is expected to have a positive impact on the country's defence manufacturing sector and contribute to the operational readiness and sustainment of future Indian Coast Guard platforms.
