NMMC Orders Evacuation Of 34 Dangerous Buildings

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has ordered the immediate evacuation of 34 buildings classified as Category C-1, deemed extremely dangerous for residential and commercial use.

The civic body has warned that continued occupation of these structures could result in loss of life and property, particularly during the monsoon season.

The NMMC has already served notices to owners and occupants, directing them to stop using the buildings and demolish them without delay.

The list of 34 Category C-1 buildings includes housing societies, apartment complexes, commercial buildings, and market premises in various divisions of Navi Mumbai, such as Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Airoli, and Digha.

Some of the affected buildings include Shri Ganesh Co-operative Housing Society, White House Co-operative Housing Society, Panchshil Apartments, and several CIDCO housing clusters in Vashi.

Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has appealed to residents to vacate the premises immediately, stating that public safety is the foremost priority.

The NMMC has also warned that electricity and water connections to these buildings will be disconnected if occupants continue to stay despite repeated notices.

In the event of a building collapse causing casualties or damage, the responsibility will lie solely with the owners and occupants, and the civic body will not be held liable.

The civic administration has urged residents to shift to safer accommodation immediately and cooperate with the evacuation process to prevent any loss of life during the ongoing monsoon season.

The Maharashtra Urban Development Department's guidelines, dated November 5, 2015, classify these structures as unsafe for use.

The NMMC's decision to evacuate the buildings is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of residents and prevent any potential disasters.

The evacuation process is expected to be completed as soon as possible, and the civic body will provide necessary assistance to affected residents.
