Pune Metro: 132 kV Power Line To Be Shifted
Pune Metro project gets underway, power line to be relocated

A significant development has taken place in the Pune Metro project, with the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) set to relocate an existing 132 kV overhead power transmission line near Balaji Nagar. This move is crucial for the construction of the Swargate–Katraj underground Metro corridor.
The relocation of the power line is being carried out in coordination with the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL). According to officials, shifting the power line is an essential step before major excavation and construction work can begin on the project.
The Swargate–Katraj Metro extension will be 5.46 km long and will have three underground stations, including Balaji Nagar, Market Yard, and Katraj. This new corridor will extend Pune Metro's existing north-south route beyond Swargate, improving connectivity to the city's southern areas.
Atul Gadgil, Director of Works at Maha-Metro, stated that relocating high-voltage transmission lines is a key pre-construction activity that needs to be completed before work on the underground station can proceed at full pace. A similar exercise is currently being carried out at Chinchwad for the PCMC–Bhakti Shakti Metro extension.
The project involves the engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning of the modified Bibwewadi–Kothrud transmission line, as well as dismantling the existing transmission towers. The relocation is necessary to provide enough vertical clearance for the underground station, tunnel approach, and related infrastructure near Bharati Vidyapeeth Hospital.
MSETCL officials emphasized that the existing 132 kV transmission line is a vital part of the electricity network. They assured that the work will be carried out in phases to ensure there is no disruption to the power supply, while maintaining all technical and safety standards.
The relocation of the power line is a significant milestone in the Pune Metro project, which aims to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the city. With the project underway, residents of Pune can look forward to a more efficient and convenient public transportation system.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited has invited national competitive bids for the project, and the work is expected to be completed soon. The completion of the Swargate–Katraj Metro extension will mark a major milestone in the development of Pune's public transportation infrastructure.
In the context of Pune's growing population and increasing traffic congestion, the Pune Metro project is a much-needed initiative. The project will not only improve connectivity but also reduce travel time and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
The relocation of the power line is a testament to the efforts being made to ensure the successful completion of the project. With the cooperation of MSETCL and other stakeholders, Maha-Metro is working tirelessly to bring the project to fruition.
In conclusion, the relocation of the 132 kV power line is a significant development in the Pune Metro project. The project is expected to have a major impact on the city's transportation infrastructure, and its completion will be a major milestone in the development of Pune.
