Fake Cops Steal ₹1.19 Lakh Gold Jewellery From Senior Citizen In Pune

A 59-year-old man, Prakash Gurusangappa Patil, was duped by two men posing as police officers in Eklahare village of Ambegaon taluka, Pune. The incident occurred on the Pune-Nashik Highway when Patil was riding his two-wheeler from Manchar to his village at around 11:35 am.

The two accused, who were on a black motorcycle, intercepted Patil and introduced themselves as police officers. They claimed that a woman had been murdered in the area and that her gold jewellery had been stolen. The accused warned Patil that wearing gold ornaments while travelling was unsafe and asked him to remove his jewellery.

Believing their story, Patil removed his 16.100-gram gold chain and 6.300-gram gold ring with a Ganpati pendant and placed them in a handkerchief as instructed. The accused then used sleight of hand to swap the original jewellery with a fake bundle and returned it to Patil. They fled the scene on their motorcycle, leaving Patil unaware that he had been cheated.

It was only after the accused had escaped that Patil realised he had been duped. The stolen ornaments are valued at around ₹1.19 lakh, according to the complaint. A case has been registered against the two unidentified accused at Manchar Police Station.
