Panvel Police Arrest Employee For Fleeing With ₹66.62 Lakh Gold

A 20-year-old employee, Shubham Manaji Khilare, was arrested by Panvel City Police within 48 hours for allegedly fleeing with 666.23 grams of gold worth ₹66.62 lakh from a jewellery shop in Panvel.

The accused was employed at Swaroop Refinery Jewellers in Panvel, where he was handed six gold bars weighing 666.23 grams for purity testing on August 20. However, Khilare allegedly failed to return to the shop and fled with the gold, switching off his mobile phone afterwards.

The shop owner approached the police, and a case was registered against Khilare under Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The police immediately formed multiple teams to track the accused through CCTV footage and technical investigation.

According to Senior Police Inspector Bala Kumbhar of Panvel City Police, the accused's movements were tracked to Solapur, where he was arrested in his native village. All six gold bars were recovered from his possession.

During the investigation, police found that Khilare had travelled by train and alighted at Kurduwadi in Solapur district. He was subsequently traced to Khilarwadi village in Sangola taluka, where he was taken into custody.

The police team that conducted the operation included Assistant Police Inspector Abhijit Patil, Police Sub-Inspectors Hazrat Pathan and Kiran Raut, along with several other police personnel.
