Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid NEET Row Uproar

The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on Monday, July 20, with the Lok Sabha being adjourned till 12 pm due to opposition uproar over the alleged NEET paper leak row.

The session began with Union Home Minister Amit Shah set to introduce the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Rajya Sabha. Other new bills listed by the centre include the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

However, proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted by opposition members protesting the alleged NEET scam. Continuous sloganeering and protests forced the Chair to suspend proceedings until noon.

Meanwhile, security forces baton-charged student protesters at Delhi's Jantar Mantar after they reportedly advanced towards Parliament during a demonstration. The circumstances leading to the use of force were not immediately clarified.

Some mobile users near Delhi's Jantar Mantar also reported receiving messages about an internet shutdown, with screenshots going viral on social media. Authorities have not officially confirmed the reported notifications or clarified their scope, while heightened security remains in place around the Parliament area.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived at Parliament on Monday ahead of the start of the Monsoon Session. The session is expected to witness heated debates as the Opposition prepares to raise several key national issues before the government.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the BJP over the alleged NEET scam, accusing the party of ignoring students' concerns. He questioned the government's handling of the examination controversy, asking if this is what Amrit Kaal is.

The Monsoon Session is expected to be a tumultuous one, with the Opposition gearing up to raise several key issues, including the NEET scam. The government, on the other hand, is set to introduce several new bills, including those related to national honour, income tax, and small and medium enterprises.

The NEET scam has been a contentious issue, with opposition parties demanding action against those responsible. The government has faced criticism for its handling of the issue, with many calling for greater transparency and accountability.

As the session progresses, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the opposition's demands and how the various bills will be debated. One thing is certain, however - the Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to be a significant one, with far-reaching implications for the country.

The outcome of the session will have a significant impact on the country, as the government and opposition parties navigate the complex web of national issues and legislative priorities. The session is a crucial opportunity for the government to address the concerns of the opposition and the people, and to demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability.

In the end, the Monsoon Session of Parliament will be a test of the government's ability to govern effectively and respond to the needs of the people. It will also be a test of the opposition's ability to hold the government accountable and to provide a credible alternative. As the session progresses, all eyes will be on Parliament, as the country waits with bated breath to see what the future holds.
