Usha Devi Becomes Rural Entrepreneur in Gorakhpur

Usha Devi, a resident of Naharpur village in Gorakhpur, has become a successful rural entrepreneur through the support of a Self-Help Group. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has been working to empower rural women through the National Rural Livelihood Mission and Self-Help Groups.

Usha Devi's journey began around 4 years ago when her family's financial condition was weak. She learned about Self-Help Groups from women in a neighboring village and decided to join. Through the group, she received training on savings, banking, and self-employment, which helped boost her confidence.

In July 2022, Usha Devi received a loan of Rs 1.50 lakh through the Self-Help Group, which proved to be a turning point in her life. She used the loan to strengthen her grocery shop and expand the business. Today, her shop is a regular source of income for her family.

Usha Devi is also working as a Samuh Sakhi, leading 9 Self-Help Groups with around 130 women associated with them. These women are engaged in various self-employment activities such as goat rearing, cow rearing, poultry farming, tailoring, embroidery, and small businesses.

The Self-Help Groups have not only economically empowered the village's women but have also given them a new identity in society. Usha Devi believes that with the right guidance and opportunities, women can achieve success in any field. The schemes such as Self-Help Groups and the Rural Livelihood Mission have provided women with financial assistance and confidence to become self-reliant.
