Ex-Sironj CEO Arrested in ₹30-Crore Scam

A former CEO of Sironj Janpad, Shobhit Tripathi, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday in connection with a ₹30-crore scam in the Kanya Vivah Yojana scheme.

Tripathi is accused of swindling the funds when he was the CEO of Sironj Janpad.

The ED registered a case after the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed an FIR.

The probe agency also registered a case against computer operators Hemant Sahu and Yogendra Sharma.

Tripathi was presented before the Bhopal court and will be on ED remand until September 9.

The scam came to light after an inquiry revealed that most of the weddings under the Kanya Vivah Yojana scheme were fake.

From 2019 to 2021, 5,923 cases of Kanya Vivah were reported, with each beneficiary shown to have received ₹51,000.

However, it was found that the weddings did not take place, and the money was transferred to bank accounts through fake documents.

The accused also withdrew the money as soon as it reached the bank accounts.

The issue was raised by an MLA from Sironj, Umakant Sharma, in the assembly, leading to the suspension of Tripathi.

The EOW had earlier arrested Tripathi and his accomplices, but they were out on bail.

The ED is now investigating the money laundering aspect of the scam.

The Kanya Vivah Yojana scheme is meant to provide financial aid to registered construction workers for their daughters' weddings.

However, in this case, the scamsters used fake documents to transfer money to bank accounts, and then withdrew it.

The scam is a significant blow to the scheme, which is meant to help needy families.

The arrest of Tripathi and the registration of cases against others is a step towards bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The ED will continue to investigate the scam and try to recover the lost funds.
