SWR Generates ₹805.7 Cr Revenue in August 2026

The South Western Railway (SWR) has achieved its highest-ever originating freight loading for the month of August since its inception, with 4.48 million tonnes (MT) of freight loaded during August 2026. This marks a 6.3% growth compared to last year. The zone's cumulative originating freight loading for the financial year 2026-27 has climbed to 21.67 MT, registering a 5.8% year-over-year increase.

The record-breaking monthly freight performance in August 2026 was driven by substantial volume expansions in the energy and heavy industrial raw material sectors. Coal loading witnessed a 37.4% surge to reach 1.03 MT compared to 0.75 MT loaded in August last year. Steel commodities followed closely with an 18.1% growth, jumping to 1.11 MT from 0.94 MT.

Other primary sectors also experienced healthy turnarounds, including a 25.0% increase in cement loading, a 13.6% climb in container traffic, and a 6.9% rise in mineral oil transportation. On a cumulative scale up to August 2026, SWR's commodity presents a diversified and highly resilient fiscal foundation. Iron ore continues to stand as the primary volume driver, contributing 8.48 MT to the network.

The zone registered a monthly Gross Revenue of ₹805.7 crore in August, pushing its total cumulative earnings for the financial year up to ₹3,850.05 crore. This cumulative figure reflects a steady 2.45% year-over-year expansion compared to the ₹3,757.85 crore generated during the same period in 2025. The core financial backbone during the single month of August 2026 was driven by freight logistics and passenger services.

Monthly freight operations brought in ₹417.08 crore, contributing to a cumulative fiscal total of ₹2,074.36 crore up to August. Simultaneously, passenger train operations generated a standalone monthly sum of ₹348.97 crore. This pushed total cumulative passenger revenue to ₹1,552.7 crore, marking a phenomenal 13.51% growth over last year.
