Kerala Launches Aquafit Programme

Kerala's General Education Minister N Samsudheen launched the 'Aquafit' programme on Wednesday, aiming to train 14,000 school students in swimming skills across the state.

The programme is part of the Kerala government's 100-day action plan and will provide swimming training to 1,000 students in each of Kerala's 14 districts.

Minister Samsudheen said the initiative aims to equip students with swimming skills, which are essential not only as a sport but also as a life-saving ability in a state with numerous rivers, canals, and other water bodies.

The project will provide swimming training to students at suitable swimming pools located within a five-kilometre radius of their schools, with the support of local self-government institutions and other departments concerned.

Samsudheen described swimming as an excellent form of exercise, helping prevent lifestyle diseases and promoting overall physical fitness.

The initiative is expected to reduce drowning incidents and identify and nurture talented swimmers.

It will also promote awareness of water safety, with trained students encouraged to share their skills and knowledge within their communities.

State Health and Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan presided over the function, while Sports and Youth Affairs Minister O J Janish was the chief guest.

The 'Aquafit' programme is a significant step towards promoting water safety and sports in Kerala.

With its focus on equipping students with essential swimming skills, the programme is likely to have a positive impact on the state's youth.

The Kerala government's initiative is also expected to contribute to the overall development of sports in the state.

In conclusion, the 'Aquafit' programme is a valuable initiative that aims to promote water safety, sports, and physical fitness among Kerala's school students.
