161 MP Police Officials Demoted for Concealing Criminal Cases

A total of 161 police officials in Madhya Pradesh have been demoted after it was found that they had concealed information about their criminal cases and punishments from the police department. The decision was taken on Tuesday after a review conducted at the departmental promotion committee (DPC) meeting.

The demoted officials include 78 inspectors and 83 sub inspectors who had hidden facts about their cases pending in courts, punishments given by their senior officials, and other offences during the promotion procedure.

The police headquarters (PHQ) had issued a promotion list and sent it to the concerned units, but the supervisory officer or the SP rechecked the credentials and found faults, leading to the proposal being returned to the PHQ.

After the DPC review, these inspectors were demoted to the post of sub-inspectors or to the post of incharge inspectors. According to officials, the names of these 161 officials will be discussed at a future DPC meeting after the court decision or end of the punishment.

The PHQ will conduct the next DPC meeting in November this year, where the names and posts for December 2027 will be decided. Once the list is final, the posts will be filled accordingly.

In total, 27,534 police officials and personnel across 58 cadres of the police department have been promoted. This includes 12,928 constables at the field level who were promoted as head constables and 5,171 head constables who were promoted as assistant sub-inspectors.

The police administration scrutinised the records of about 2,100 acting inspectors and sub-inspectors for promotion, and 1,029 were promoted. Additionally, 30 subedars were promoted to reserve inspectors on Tuesday, bringing the total number of promotions on these posts to 199.

The demotion of 161 police officials is a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and transparency of the police department. It sends a strong message that concealing information and hiding the truth will not be tolerated.
