Ram Mandir Donation Theft: Trustee Disputes ₹14 Crore Claim

On Tuesday, Swami Govinddev Giri Maharaj, Treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, disputed media reports claiming that gold, silver, and other valuables worth ₹14 crore had been stolen from temple donations.

He stated that the alleged theft was likely to be around ₹3 crore, calling the reports of the higher amount 'completely false'. Swami Govinddev Giri Maharaj also denied reports of his resignation from the post of Treasurer, saying they were false and that he had not submitted his resignation.

The denial comes after an Ayodhya court extended the judicial custody of all eight accused in the alleged Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case by another 14 days. The accused appeared before the court through video conferencing and are scheduled to appear again on July 27.

The investigating officer, Ashutosh Tiwari, submitted evidence and documents collected during the remand period of three accused before Ayodhya's Anti-Corruption Court in connection with the case. The Supreme Court also issued notices to the Centre, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, seeking their responses to petitions demanding an independent, court-monitored probe into the alleged misappropriation of donations.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is responsible for the construction and management of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The temple has been a significant site for Hindu pilgrims and has received numerous donations for its construction and maintenance.

The alleged theft of donations has sparked concerns about the transparency and accountability of the trust. The Supreme Court's decision to seek responses from the Centre, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the trust is expected to provide clarity on the matter.

The case has also raised questions about the management of donations at religious sites in India. The incident highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in the management of donations at such sites.

In recent years, there have been several instances of misappropriation of donations at religious sites in India. The incident at the Ram Mandir has brought attention to the need for stricter regulations and oversight mechanisms to prevent such incidents.

The investigation into the alleged theft is ongoing, and the Supreme Court's decision to seek responses from the Centre, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the trust is expected to provide further clarity on the matter. The trust has denied any wrongdoing and has stated that it is cooperating with the investigation.

In conclusion, the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Mandir has sparked concerns about the transparency and accountability of the trust. The Supreme Court's decision to seek responses from the Centre, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the trust is expected to provide clarity on the matter.
