Divisional Commissioner G Sreekanth has directed the upgrade of the Divisional Sports Complex in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to provide modern facilities and ensure safety measures.
The directive was issued at a meeting of the Divisional Sports Complex Committee held at the Smart City office on Thursday. The meeting was attended by District Collector Vinay Gowda, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Minnu PM, and other officials.
Sreekanth stated that the upgrade is in line with the Chief Minister's 'Developed Maharashtra' policy, which aims to provide superior-quality facilities at sports complexes to groom outstanding athletes from Marathwada. He emphasized the need to focus on creating necessary infrastructure to prepare athletes for national and international competitions.
The 400-metre synthetic track at the Divisional Sports Complex is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the occasion of Marathwada Liberation Day. Sreekanth has also directed that district-level sports competitions be organised during the same period.
The upgrade works include establishing a Divisional Centre of Excellence, providing facilities for lawn tennis, wrestling, badminton, boxing, basketball, and football, arranging accommodation for athletes, and ensuring the availability of quality sports equipment. Sreekanth has instructed officials to submit a proposal to the District Planning Committee to secure the necessary funds for these works.
Additionally, directives were issued to address the issue of stray dogs within the sports complex premises and the surrounding areas, and to take punitive action against individuals who gather to feed stray dogs in the area. The concerned authorities were also instructed to prepare a plan to upgrade the parking facilities at the sports complex and implement a 'Pay and Park' facility.
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be formulated for the use of the newly introduced synthetic track and football field. The upgrade is expected to transform the Divisional Sports Complex into a training centre of national and international standards.
