A tragic accident occurred in Pune district's Jejuri during the Ashadhi Wari procession, resulting in the deaths of three women pilgrims. The incident took place when a truck ran over the women, who were part of a group of pilgrims from Sangli district.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ₹5 lakh ex gratia for the families of the deceased women. Fadnavis expressed his condolences on social media, stating that the incident was deeply distressing and that he paid heartfelt tributes to the women who lost their lives.

The accident occurred around 8:30 am near a hotel, about 500 meters from the Belsar toll plaza towards Jejuri. According to the preliminary inquiry, the 70-year-old truck driver was unwell and on medication for fever and cold, and allegedly swerved left while overtaking another vehicle, ploughing down the women.

The deceased women were identified as Nanda Pawar (60), Madhavi Rajaram Salgare (55), and Rajshri Shankar Bhosale (55), all from Miraj taluka in Sangli district. Four other women were injured in the accident and were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Jejuri for treatment.

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar visited the injured women in the hospital and expressed her condolences. The state government has announced that it will provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

The Ashadhi Wari procession is an annual event where pilgrims from various parts of Maharashtra gather to worship at the Pandharpur temple. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of pilgrims during such events.
