Karnataka Police Recover Teen's Skeletal Remains, Arrest Four

A significant breakthrough has been achieved by the Karnataka police in a case involving a 16-year-old girl who went missing from Shikaripura town in Shivamogga district. The girl's skeletal remains were recovered from forests in Uttara Kannada district, and four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

The girl, a resident of Taralaghatta village, was working at a paying guest accommodation in Shikaripura when she went missing on June 18, 2025. Her disappearance had left the police baffled until the recent discovery of her skeletal remains. According to Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B Nikhil, the remains were found in a forest near Mavinagundi in Siddapura taluk, Uttara Kannada district.

The girl had a troubled past, having lost her mother and had a fight with her father, which led her to leave home and start working at the paying guest accommodation run by Soubhagya. After working for a year, she went missing, and her father lodged a missing complaint with the Shikaripura police after waiting for a week.

The police investigation revealed that the girl's phone was switched off near the paying guest accommodation on the day she went missing, and there was no evidence to suggest that she had left Shikaripura on her own. The police collected technical evidence and started interrogating Soubhagya, Ranjitha, who lived in the same paying guest accommodation, her friend Ganga Naik, and Periya Naik.

During the interrogation, the four individuals confessed to their involvement in the girl's death. They revealed that the girl had a tiff with Ranjitha, who ran a beauty parlour in the neighborhood. Soubhagya took the girl to the beauty parlour and reprimanded her in front of customers, leading to her humiliation. The girl returned to the paying guest accommodation and committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan.

Fearing legal action, Soubhagya and Ranjitha sought the help of their friends Ganga Naik and Periya Naik to dispose of the body. They dumped the body in a forest near Sirsi, where it was recently discovered.
