Maharashtra Observes Water Conservation Week From August 15

Maharashtra will observe Water Conservation Week from August 15 to 21, with a series of awareness and community-led activities planned across the state.

The week will culminate in Water Conservation Day on August 21, which is observed in recognition of the contribution of former Maharashtra Chief Minister late Sudhakarrao Naik.

Soil and Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod directed district administrations and government agencies to work together to increase public participation in soil and water conservation initiatives.

A three-kilometre Walkathon, Maha Walkathon – Walk for Water, will be organised in every district on August 21, under the theme 'Save Soil, Save Water, Secure Tomorrow’.

Citizens, elected representatives, students, and government employees are encouraged to participate in the walkathon.

A state-level 'Reel for Soil and Water Conservation' competition will also be held for young people aged 15 to 30, where participants will create Instagram reels highlighting soil and water conservation.

The government will conduct a statewide 'Water Conservation Campaign' from August 15, 2026, to January 26, 2027, which will include competitions in schools and colleges, and the 'One School-One Recharge Pit' initiative.

On August 21, schools will pay tribute to late Sudhakarrao Naik and administer a soil and water conservation pledge to students.

Activities in rural and urban areas will include cleaning water sources, tree plantation, and inauguration of farm ponds and other water conservation projects.

Minister Sanjay Rathod appealed to people to participate in large numbers to help build a water-secure and prosperous Maharashtra.

The Water Conservation Week is part of the state government's efforts to promote the 'Paani Adva, Paani Jirva' (Save Water, Recharge Water) campaign.

The campaign aims to increase public awareness about the importance of water conservation and promote community-led initiatives to conserve water.

The state government has planned various activities to engage citizens, especially youth, in water conservation efforts.

The Water Conservation Week will help to create a statewide movement for water conservation and promote sustainable development.

The success of the Water Conservation Week will depend on the participation of citizens and the effectiveness of the activities planned by the state government.

Overall, the Water Conservation Week is an important initiative to promote water conservation and sustainable development in Maharashtra.
