Pune, German Cities Discuss Partnership, Market Access

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and cities in Germany's Frankfurt Rhine-Main region discussed a long-term partnership in various areas, including urban development, transportation, and waste management.

The discussion took place on Tuesday, with a delegation from German cities, including Raunheim, Rüsselsheim, and Kelsterbach, meeting PMC officials to explore city-to-city and twin-city partnerships.

PMC Mayor Manjusha Nagpure welcomed the delegation and expressed the corporation's keenness to develop long-term partnerships in areas such as technology, urban development, and cultural exchange.

According to PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Pune's rapid urban growth makes international expertise and technology important for addressing civic challenges. He highlighted the significant opportunities for cooperation with German cities in areas such as artificial intelligence, urban governance, and transportation.

The German experience in urban transportation, waste management, technology, and governance could help Pune tackle issues related to urbanization, including transport, water supply, and infrastructure.

Raunheim Mayor David Rendel stated that the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region and Pune have considerable potential for cooperation in innovation, technology, and economic development.

A major proposal discussed was a 12-month European market access program for selected Pune MSMEs, which will provide market assessment, feasibility studies, and guidance on setting up businesses in Germany.

Waste management and the circular economy were other key agenda items, with the proposed cooperation focusing on business ties, knowledge exchange, and people-to-people relations.

The partnership aims to strengthen relations among companies, institutions, and citizens, with a focus on trust, economic cooperation, innovation, and meaningful participation.

The meeting marked the beginning of concrete and long-term cooperation between Pune and the German cities, with the potential to benefit Pune-based businesses and contribute to the city's development.
