Air India Express Launches NMIA's First International Flight

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to commence its first scheduled international operations on Wednesday, with Air India Express operating the maiden flight to Abu Dhabi. This marks a significant milestone for the airport, which welcomed its first domestic passengers 201 days ago.

The new route will initially operate bi-weekly, with flights every Wednesday and Friday, and will increase to three flights a week from July 29, with the addition of Sundays. The flight schedule has been designed to provide convenient connections for passengers traveling to western destinations, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

The introductory pricing for the Navi Mumbai-Abu Dhabi route is competitive, with tickets priced at Rs 12,671, undercutting the average fare for the same route out of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. This is expected to give NMIA an edge over the existing airport.

The inaugural flight will also carry NMIA's first global perishable export shipment, formally activating the airport's international cargo capabilities. This will establish a vital new cold-chain pipeline for Indian agro-exporters looking to access Gulf markets with high-value, time-sensitive goods.

According to Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, the launch of the first scheduled international flight marks the beginning of a new phase in NMIA's journey. The airport has already connected 46 domestic destinations, catered to over 2.3 million passengers, and handled an average of 150 air traffic movements daily since starting operations on December 25 last year.

The launch of international operations at NMIA is expected to boost the airport's growth and strengthen its position as a preferred gateway. Other airlines are currently in a wait-and-watch mode, observing the response to Air India Express's new route before making their own plans.

The NMIA-Abu Dhabi route will provide Navi Mumbai residents with a convenient and direct connection to the Middle Eastern hub, with a flight duration of just 3 hours and 10 minutes. The afternoon arrival at Abu Dhabi will also align with onward connecting flights to western destinations.

The international cargo capabilities of NMIA are expected to provide a significant boost to Indian agro-exporters, who will now have access to a new and efficient cold-chain pipeline. This will enable them to export high-value, time-sensitive goods to Gulf markets, further strengthening India's trade ties with the region.

In conclusion, the launch of Air India Express's maiden international flight from NMIA marks a significant milestone in the airport's journey. With its competitive pricing, convenient flight schedule, and international cargo capabilities, NMIA is poised to become a major player in the Indian aviation industry.

The success of this new route will have a positive impact on the local economy, providing new opportunities for trade, tourism, and employment. As NMIA continues to expand its network and operations, it is expected to become an increasingly important hub for international travel and commerce in the region.

With the airport's international operations now underway, residents of Navi Mumbai and the surrounding areas can look forward to convenient and direct connections to destinations around the world. The future of NMIA looks bright, and it will be exciting to see how the airport continues to grow and develop in the coming months and years.

The launch of international flights from NMIA is a significant development for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and it is expected to have a major impact on the local economy and community. As the airport continues to expand and grow, it will provide new opportunities for trade, tourism, and employment, and will help to establish the region as a major hub for international travel and commerce.
