Western Railway Expands Prabhadevi FOB

Western Railway has begun work to widen the narrow entry and exit point on the western side of the South Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Prabhadevi railway station. The expansion is aimed at easing growing passenger congestion at the station.

The decision to expand the FOB was taken during inspections by DRM, Mumbai Central, Pankaj Singh, along with BMC and Western Railway officials. The existing toilet block adjacent to the South FOB entry has been demolished after obtaining the necessary NOC from the BMC.

An additional staircase is also planned at the location, with trial pits being dug to identify underground utilities, including water pipelines and electrical cables. The foundation layout has been marked and excavation for the proposed staircase is underway.

Steel structural members are being fabricated at Dadar Workshop on priority. Western Railway has agreed to provide two toilets from an existing colony toilet block for nearby residents, while BMC has been requested to make additional toilet arrangements.

The Railways is also exploring the possibility of providing four toilet facilities through existing arrangements. A joint coordination meeting was held on August 18 to discuss a phased plan to improve passenger circulation at Prabhadevi (West).

A key proposal is an additional 12-metre-wide FOB, including suitable staircase and lift arrangements. The proposal had earlier been submitted to BMC but was not accepted. However, following the dismantling of the CaroL ROB, officials have observed increased pedestrian movement and congestion on the existing FOB.

BMC/AMC has now agreed in principle to examine the proposal. Western Railway and BMC will jointly identify a suitable location, considering land availability, passenger convenience and site constraints.

Police and traffic authorities will also take action against errant parking near the FOB landing. The measures are aimed at improving passenger circulation and safety at the station.

The expansion of the FOB is expected to benefit thousands of commuters who use the Prabhadevi railway station every day. The station is a key transit point for passengers traveling to and from the western suburbs.

The improvement in passenger circulation and safety at the station is a welcome move, and commuters can expect a more convenient and hassle-free travel experience in the near future.

The Western Railway's efforts to improve infrastructure at the Prabhadevi railway station are part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the overall commuting experience for passengers.

With the expansion of the FOB, passengers can expect reduced congestion and a safer travel experience. The move is also expected to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries at the station.

In conclusion, the expansion of the Prabhadevi FOB is a significant development that will benefit commuters and improve safety at the station.

The Western Railway's efforts to improve infrastructure at the station are a step in the right direction, and commuters can expect more such initiatives in the future.

The expansion of the FOB is a testament to the Western Railway's commitment to providing a safe and convenient travel experience for its passengers.

The move is expected to have a positive impact on the overall commuting experience for passengers, and is a welcome development for the thousands of commuters who use the Prabhadevi railway station every day.
