Mumbai, Pune Universities Launch Joint MTech Programmes
Mumbai and Pune universities collaborate on MTech programmes. Energy and nanotechnology courses offered.

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and the University of Mumbai (MU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch joint MTech programmes in energy studies and nanoscience/nanotechnology.
This collaboration marks the first time SPPU has partnered with another university to offer a joint postgraduate technology programme.
The programmes will be offered by SPPU's Centre for Energy Studies and MU's Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, allowing students to earn credits from both universities and study at both campuses.
There will be 25 seats available in the programme, and students will be admitted through a common entrance examination conducted by the two universities.
Under the proposed structure, students will spend their first year at SPPU and the second year at MU, with the option to earn credits by taking courses offered by either university.
SPPU Vice-Chancellor Gosavi stated that the partnership will combine SPPU's research strength in energy studies with MU's infrastructure and expertise in nanotechnology.
The university is also looking to promote greater sharing of faculty, laboratories, and other infrastructure among colleges under the National Education Policy (NEP).
Gosavi suggested that colleges with better infrastructure and facilities could act as 'lead colleges' within academic clusters, allowing other institutions in the clusters to use their laboratories and other resources.
SPPU is also working to strengthen interdisciplinary research by bringing different fields together, including materials science, electronics, computer science, biotechnology, and bioinformatics.
The aim is to develop research and technologies that can address wider societal needs.
This collaboration is a significant step towards promoting interdisciplinary research and education, and is expected to benefit students and faculty from both universities.
The joint MTech programmes in energy studies and nanoscience/nanotechnology will provide students with a unique opportunity to gain expertise in these fields and contribute to the development of innovative technologies.
The partnership between SPPU and MU is a positive step towards achieving the goals of the National Education Policy, and is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector in India.
