Pune Police Catch Two Fortuners With Fake MLA Stickers

In a surprising turn of events, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police in Pune have caught two separate cases of private Toyota Fortuners displaying fake MLA stickers. The incidents took place on September 10 and 12 in Wakad and Bhosari, respectively.

The police complaints state that neither the drivers nor their families had any connection with a sitting Maharashtra MLA. The occupants also allegedly had no official permission to display the MLA-related logos.

In the first case, a black Toyota Fortuner bearing registration number MH 14 KU 0055 was intercepted by the Bhosari Traffic police on Pune Nashik Highway. The vehicle had tinted windows and a printed logo carrying the words “Hon. MLA Legislative Assembly Maharashtra State Mumbai” on both the front and rear windshields.

The driver, Krishna Govind Ambar, and the passenger, Ritesh Mahadev Chavan, were questioned about the MLA logo. They allegedly told police that none of their relatives or acquaintances was an MLA. More significantly, they admitted to putting the logo on the vehicle for personal financial gain and to obtain VIP privileges.

A similar incident was reported in Wakad two days earlier. On September 10, traffic police noticed another black Toyota Fortuner, MH 14 KQ 0125, with heavily tinted windows while travelling near Park Street Society.

The cases were registered under Section 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act relating to tinted glass and traffic violations.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad area has only 5 legislators, including 3 MLAs and 2 MLCs. However, the presence of fake MLA stickers on cars seems to be a common phenomenon.

The police action against the two vehicles is part of a special drive against vehicles with tinted glass. The drive aims to curb the misuse of VIP privileges and ensure that only authorized vehicles display such stickers.

The incidents highlight the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and regulations. The use of fake MLA stickers is not only illegal but also undermines the authority of genuine MLAs and other public officials.
