A 23-year-old man, Dnyaneshwar Uttreshwar Wakde, was brutally murdered on a busy road in Ghatnandur village of Ambajogai tehsil on Saturday night. The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm when Wakde and his friends were travelling to an ATM on a motorcycle.

According to the police, the group was intercepted near Annabhau Sathe Chowk by a group of seven individuals, who allegedly attacked them over an old rivalry. The assailants used sharp weapons, stones, and bricks to assault the trio, and Wakde was stabbed in the abdomen.

Wakde was rushed to the Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Government Medical College and Hospital in Ambajogai, where he was declared dead on arrival. The police have registered a murder case against the seven accused, identified as Somnath Kerba Kamble, Vishal Shinde, Gokul Ichke, Suraj Tate, Samadhan Misal, Kanhaiya Sopan Misal, and Ganesh Khandare.

The residents of Patti Wadgaon, Wakde's hometown, staged a sit-in protest outside the Rural Police Station on Sunday, demanding action against those who allegedly sheltered the accused. The protest continued for nearly 10 hours before being withdrawn after the police assured the villagers that all the accused would be arrested.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Anantre stated that five of the accused have been detained, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder.
