Central Railway Refunds ₹5.91 Crore To Passengers
Central Railway refunds nearly ₹6 crore to 80,000 passengers after monsoon disruption

A landslide between Karjat and Lonavala on July 6 severely disrupted train services on the Central Railway line, forcing cancellations, short terminations, and rescheduling of several trains. As a result, the railway refunded nearly ₹5.91 crore to around 80,000 passengers. The refund amount was processed on the same day, with the Mumbai Division accounting for the highest refunds, issuing ₹2.86 crore to 37,330 passengers.
According to Central Railway officials, refund claims were processed quickly across all divisions with the help of additional staff and special help desks set up at stations. Every effort was made to minimise inconvenience and ensure eligible passengers received their refunds without unnecessary delay. The Pune Division also saw a significant number of refunds, with 20,982 passengers receiving refunds totalling ₹1.56 crore.
The disruption caused by the heavy monsoon has put a significant pressure on railway operations, with the refund amount increasing by 96% and the number of passengers receiving refunds rising by 106% over the corresponding day last year. Central Railway has advised passengers to check the latest train status before starting their journey and use railway helplines or station enquiry counters for updated information.
Restoration work in the affected Karjat-Lonavala section is continuing on a war footing to restore normal train services. The railway is working to ensure that passengers face minimal inconvenience and that train services are restored as soon as possible. The monsoon season has been particularly challenging for the railway, with heavy rains causing waterlogging, landslides, and OHE failures, leading to mass cancellations.
The refund process has been appreciated by passengers, who have been affected by the disruption. The railway's efforts to process refunds quickly and efficiently have helped to reduce the inconvenience caused to passengers. However, the disruption has also highlighted the need for improved infrastructure and planning to mitigate the effects of extreme weather on railway operations.
In the meantime, passengers are advised to plan their journeys carefully and check the latest train status before starting their journey. The railway will continue to update passengers on the status of train services and any changes to schedules or routes. With the monsoon season expected to continue, the railway is bracing itself for further disruptions and is working to ensure that passengers are informed and prepared,
