CCTV Footage Cracks Nasrapur Rape Case
A sweet shop's CCTV footage helped solve a rape and murder case in Pune's Nasrapur. The victim's father reveals how investigators used the footage to crack the case.

A minor girl's rape and murder in Pune's Nasrapur was solved using CCTV footage from a sweet shop. The footage was crucial because a power outage had disabled the village's public cameras. The victim's father shared the details of the investigation on a podcast.
The accused, Bhimrao Kamble, had been watching the girl for at least two days before the crime. He was working nearby and knew the girl's routine. The police examined CCTV footage from the previous two to three days, which showed Kamble keeping a close watch on the girl.
The accused took advantage of a scheduled power outage in the village, believing there would be no evidence against him. However, a nearby sweet shop had switched on its inverter, which powered its CCTV cameras. The cameras captured the accused taking the girl towards the cowshed.
The victim's father said the CCTV footage was key evidence in the case. The footage showed the girl happily walking with the accused, who had told her he would show her a newborn calf. The investigation took a crucial turn because of the sweet shop's CCTV cameras.
The accused had planned to dispose of evidence after dark and escape from the village. But when the girl did not return home, her grandmother began searching for her, and a neighbour alerted the police. The police, along with villagers, immediately started checking available CCTV footage, which led to the accused's arrest.
The court has sentenced Kamble to death for the crime. The victim's father said that if the sweet shop's CCTV camera had not been working, it would have been extremely difficult to catch the accused.
