Vasai-Virar Bus Services Halt Amid Driver Protest

A sudden work stoppage by drivers and conductors of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation transport service has brought public transport in Vasai-Virar to a complete standstill. This is the second major disruption in recent weeks, with drivers and conductors having previously gone on strike on August 11 over wage hikes and operational demands. The protesting employees are frustrated over receiving reduced pay right before a major festival like Ganeshotsav.

The protesting workers expressed their frustration, stating that they work the entire month and have expenses during the festival season. They questioned how they are expected to run their households on half-pay.

Dhairyashil Jadhav, Transport Manager, stated that efforts are underway to restore bus services as quickly as possible. The contractor concerned has been ordered to address the workers' demands immediately and resolve the deadlock.

Kiran Sherekar, Depot Manager, explained that a financial crunch arose because pending dues for various schemes haven't been cleared by the Municipal Corporation yet. However, partial wages were disbursed, and they are actively speaking with employees to find a resolution.

The sudden strike has forced passengers to rely on auto-rickshaws and private vehicles, which is causing inflated hassle. The situation is expected to be resolved soon, with officials working to address the workers' demands.
