Indore Demolishes ₹40-Crore Illegal Colony

The district administration in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has demolished an illegal colony on government land worth approximately ₹40 crore in the Sirpur area. The action was taken on Wednesday after an inspection by the sub-divisional officer and tehsildar revealed that the land was being falsely projected as private property.

According to officials, Ajju Khan, a resident of Samrat Nagar, had demarcated small plots on the government land and was selling them through notarised agreements. However, revenue records showed that the land is registered in the name of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department.

The inquiry revealed that Khan had allegedly attempted to develop an illegal colony named 'New Laxmi Nagar' by selling plots to unsuspecting buyers. The land under Survey No. 37/1 is registered in the name of Siddhnath Mishrilal, son of Ganpat, and not owned by Khan.

Chandan Nagar police have registered a case against Khan under Sections 318(4) and 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the inspection, officials also found several individuals residing in tin-shed houses on the government land, including Zarina Bee, Babli, and Yasmin Mansoori. Revenue cases were registered against them and eviction orders were issued as per rules.

This is not the first time that encroachments have been removed from the same government land. Earlier, on May 4, encroachments and fencing created by several individuals, including Ali Mohammad and Shahrukh Qureshi, were removed with the assistance of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) removal team and the police.

The investigation has revealed that the land mafia sold over 100 plots at approximately ₹5 lakh each, allegedly cheating citizens of over ₹5 crore. The district administration has taken swift action to prevent further encroachments and to protect government land from land mafia.
