DRI Seizes ₹4.72-Crore Smuggled Gold In Indore

A significant seizure of smuggled gold was made by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday.

The DRI arrested three men who were carrying 3 kg of foreign-origin gold worth ₹4.72 crore.

The seizure was made after a violent confrontation between the smugglers and DRI officers, which left two officials injured.

According to the DRI, the smugglers had arrived from Akola in Maharashtra by car to deliver the gold in Indore.

When DRI officers intercepted them, the smugglers attempted to escape and allegedly tried to run over the officers.

One of the smugglers also picked up a large stone and struck an officer on the head.

The injured officers were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The DRI team searched the vehicle and found 3 kg of foreign-origin gold, and also intercepted the receiver.

The smugglers had allegedly melted the foreign-origin gold and imprinted it with an Indian brand to conceal its origin.

In this case, fake 'Agnis' markings were imprinted on two gold bars.

All three accused were arrested under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and further investigation is underway.

The DRI has been cracking down on gold smuggling in recent times, and this seizure is a significant blow to the smugglers.
