50 Musicians Get M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship

Fifty young musicians from across India were awarded the Sri Shanmukhananda M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music on Saturday. The fellowships were presented at a function organised by the Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha to mark 100 years since legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi made her first recording.

The fellowship covers various disciplines including vocal music, violin, flute, mridangam, tabla and nadaswaram. Each fellow will receive Rs 1 lakh annually for three years. With this year's awards, the Sabha has now conferred the fellowship on 231 young musicians.
