Panvel Hosts 1st Kharghar Hill Mayor's Marathon on August 23

The Panvel Municipal Corporation is set to host its first-ever Kharghar Hill Mayor's Marathon on August 23, offering runners a challenging 42.195-km course across the undulating terrain of the Kharghar hills.

The event has already received an enthusiastic response, with around 5,000 participants registering on the official website so far. The full marathon will be accompanied by a 21.0975-km half marathon, as well as 10-km, 5-km, and 3-km race categories to encourage wider public participation.

The Kharghar Hill Mayor's Marathon is expected to be significantly more demanding than the Mumbai Marathon due to its steep ascents and descents through the hill ranges. Registration fees range from Rs 100 to Rs 1,350, depending on the race category.

To ensure the safety of participants, the Panvel Municipal Corporation will station four ambulances and medical teams at different points along the route. Additionally, 19 water stations and 10 refreshment points will be provided to help runners stay hydrated and maintain their energy levels during the race.

The civic body expects to spend around Rs 2 crore on organising the event, with the expenditure being met through a combination of registration fees and municipal funds. Since its formation, the Panvel Municipal Corporation has organised several marathons to promote social awareness and public participation.
