District Guardian Minister Meghna Bordikar on Sunday emphasized the importance of integrating traditional agriculture with sericulture and dairy farming to double farmers' income in Parbhani.

She was speaking at a workshop on Sustainable Agriculture, Sericulture and Dairy, organized at the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University. The programme aimed to promote the 'silk and milk' model, which combines sericulture with dairy farming, as a sustainable and profitable option for farmers.

Bordikar assured that the government would provide special financial assistance to strengthen the silk industry in the district. This includes establishing silk processing units, a Silk Bhavan, and creating facilities across the entire value chain. She also urged young farmers to adopt sericulture, dairy farming, and agro-processing, leveraging modern technology to make agriculture more profitable.

The government has taken several farmer-centric decisions, including waiving electricity bills and ensuring remunerative prices for agricultural produce. Empowering women farmers is also a key focus area. Bordikar expressed confidence that a dedicated sericulture research centre would soon be established at the agricultural university, which has already made significant contributions to the district's silk production.

District Collector Sanjay Singh Chavan highlighted Parbhani's immense potential for sericulture and the 'silk and milk' model. He emphasized that promoting sericulture, dairy farming, and agro-processing industries would help enhance farmers' incomes. The programme was jointly organized by the university's Sericulture Research Project, the Department of Agriculture, ATMA, the Central Silk Board, the District Sericulture Office, and the Lead Bank.

The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, and the Silk Milk logo and a commemorative magazine were released. Several dignitaries, including Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Natisha Mathur and Deputy General Manager YVSS Nageshwar Rao, were present.

The 'silk and milk' model has the potential to transform the agricultural landscape in Parbhani. By providing financial assistance and promoting sericulture and dairy farming, the government aims to boost farmers' earnings and make agriculture more sustainable.

In the context of the Indian agricultural sector, the 'silk and milk' model offers a unique opportunity for farmers to diversify their income streams. With the government's support, farmers in Parbhani can leverage this model to improve their economic prospects.

The success of the 'silk and milk' model in Parbhani can have significant implications for the broader agricultural sector in India. As the government continues to promote sustainable agriculture and sericulture, farmers across the country may benefit from this innovative approach.
