Nashik Police Seize ₹88 Lakh Urea in Black Market Bust

A major black market operation involving government-subsidised urea has been busted by the Lasalgaon Police in Nashik. On August 1, police received a tip-off about a stock of subsidised urea being illegally stored at Vishnunagar for sale in the black market.

The police team, led by Police Sub-Inspector Kiran Salunke, conducted a raid and recovered a large quantity of subsidised urea bags, along with a Tata truck and other related materials. The total value of the confiscated property is estimated to be around ₹88,36,624.

Two individuals, Dnyaneshwar Dagu Pawar and Sagar Kishor Garad, have been arrested in connection with the case. Pawar, a 37-year-old former Zilla Parishad member, and Garad, a 27-year-old resident of Subhash Nagar Road, Vinchur, are accused of illegally possessing the subsidised fertiliser with the intention of selling it for personal financial gain.

According to the police, the accused were cheating the government and depriving eligible farmers of subsidised supplies. A case has been registered at Lasalgaon Police Station under various sections of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The police are investigating whether more individuals were involved in the racket, the source of the subsidised urea, and where it was intended to be sold. The operation was carried out under the directions of Assistant Police Inspector Sagar Kote.
