Pune To Maintain Regular Water Supply

The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to continue providing regular water supply across the city, with no immediate plans to reintroduce water cuts. This decision comes after recent heavy rainfall significantly increased water storage in the Khadakwasla dam chain.

According to Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, the civic body will maintain regular water supply until further notice. The Water Supply Department reported that the water stock in the Khadakwasla dam chain has increased to 16.64 TMC, a substantial improvement from the 3.81 TMC recorded just a few weeks ago.

The civic body had earlier introduced alternate-day water supply from June 15 to conserve water, but suspended the cuts from July 7 to July 12 to ensure uninterrupted supply during the annual Palkhi procession. With the relaxation period ending, there were concerns that water cuts would resume, but PMC officials have clarified that regular supply will continue.

Mayor Nagpure stated that a final decision on whether water cuts will be required in the coming weeks will be taken after a meeting of all party leaders, scheduled for next week. Until then, the administration has been instructed to maintain regular water supply across Pune.

Earlier this year, the India Meteorological Department had forecast below-normal rainfall, and the expected impact of El Niño raised concerns about water availability. These factors led the PMC to implement a 25 per cent reduction in water use through scheduled supply cuts.

Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department, Nandkishore Jagtap, said there is sufficient water available in the dam system at present, and the decision to restart water cuts has been postponed due to the improved water levels.

The increased water storage in the Khadakwasla dam chain is a result of continuous rainfall in the region. The civic body will continue to monitor the water levels and take necessary decisions to ensure a stable water supply.

The decision to maintain regular water supply will provide relief to residents, who were bracing for the possibility of water cuts. The PMC's efforts to conserve water and manage supply have been successful so far, and the city can expect a stable water supply in the coming weeks.

In related news, the Pune Administration has imposed strict safety curbs at Lohagad, Visapur, Tiger Point, and Pavana Dam till August 31. However, this decision is unrelated to the water supply situation.

The regular water supply will continue to be monitored, and any changes will be announced in due course. For now, residents can expect a regular and uninterrupted water supply.

In conclusion, the Pune Municipal Corporation's decision to maintain regular water supply is a welcome move for the city's residents. The improved water levels in the Khadakwasla dam chain have provided a buffer against water scarcity, and the civic body's efforts to manage supply have been successful. As the city looks to the future, it is likely that the water supply situation will remain stable, providing relief to residents and businesses alike.

The Pune Municipal Corporation's proactive approach to managing water supply has helped to mitigate the effects of below-normal rainfall and the expected impact of El Niño. The city's residents can expect a stable water supply, and the civic body will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary decisions to ensure a reliable water supply.

Overall, the decision to maintain regular water supply is a positive development for the city of Pune, and residents can look forward to a stable and uninterrupted water supply in the coming weeks.
