Indore, Ujjain Temples Prepare for Ganeshotsav

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations have commenced across Madhya Pradesh, with Indore and Ujjain being the epicenters of the festivities. The Khajrana Ganesh Temple and Bada Ganpati Temple in Indore, along with the Chintaman Ganesh Temple in Ujjain, are gearing up for a grand Ganeshotsav celebration.

The Khajrana Ganesh Temple, in particular, is set to witness a massive turnout of devotees. The temple has been decorated with flowers and lights, and the deity will be adorned with gold ornaments worth ₹7 crore. The temple authorities have also planned to offer 1.25 lakh Modaks to Lord Ganesh during the festivities.

Chief priest Pandit Ashok Bhatt stated that the deity will be adorned differently each day with gold ornaments valued at around ₹7 crore. The temple has also fitted diamond-studded eyes on the idol, which was done during Brahma Muhurta on Sunday. District Collector Shivam Verma and Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal will perform the flag worship ceremony and Maha Aarti on Monday.

The Bada Ganpati Temple in Indore, which is marking its 125th anniversary, has also planned elaborate celebrations. The 25-foot-tall Ganpati idol will receive an offering of around 101 kg of laddus, including a five-kg laddu. Aartis are scheduled for the morning and evening, with a special Maha Aarti at noon.

Meanwhile, the Chintaman Ganesh Temple in Ujjain is preparing for a large influx of devotees. The temple has a unique tradition where devotees draw an inverted Swastika behind the sanctum while making a wish and return to draw it upright after their wish is fulfilled. Devotees also tie sacred threads and perform Tuladan after their vows are fulfilled.

The temple authorities have made elaborate arrangements to manage the crowds, including separate entry and exit gates. A one-hour musical Aarti will be performed daily at 9 pm. Families blessed with children often offer laddus equivalent to the child’s weight and distribute them as Prasad.

The Ganeshotsav celebrations will continue for 10 days, with the temples offering a range of activities, including special pujas, Shringar, Aarti, and Darshan. The festivities are expected to attract a large number of devotees from across the state.
