Pune University Recruitment Under Scanner

A recruitment scandal has hit Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) with allegations of serious irregularities in the selection process for 133 contractual Assistant Professor posts.

Candidates and activists associated with the Shiv-Phule-Shahu-Ambedkar movement have submitted a memorandum to the university administration, questioning the implementation of the reservation policy and the evaluation criteria used in the selection process.

They alleged that the university ignored objections submitted by candidates and released the final selection list without addressing them.

The complainants also claimed that interview marks were awarded arbitrarily, with some applicants receiving disproportionately high marks despite having lower Academic Performance scores.

Furthermore, they alleged discrimination against candidates from backward classes and those associated with the Shiv-Phule-Shahu-Ambedkar movement.

The memorandum raised concerns over the conduct of interviews, including the failure of some departments to conduct mandatory teaching demonstrations.

It also claimed that reservation representatives and the Vice-Chancellor's nominees were absent during interviews in several departments, and that women's reservation was not implemented effectively.

The evaluation criteria used by the university were also questioned, with the complainants alleging that a 50:50 evaluation ratio was used instead of the prescribed 60:40 ratio.

The candidates are demanding that the recruitment process be cancelled and a fresh, transparent selection process be conducted in accordance with government rules.

They have warned that if the recruitment is not cancelled within eight days, they will launch an indefinite protest.
