MCA Approves Pension Scheme For Cricketers' Widows

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Apex Council has approved a pension scheme for the spouses of deceased first-class cricketers from Mumbai. This decision was made at a meeting held on 13 July 2026.

The pension scheme is a significant welfare initiative aimed at supporting the surviving spouses of Mumbai's cricketers. The MCA recognises the invaluable contribution of these cricketers to the game and has decided to extend financial support to their families.

In addition to the pension scheme, the Apex Council also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Dr H.D. Kanga Cricket League, scheduled to commence on 15 August 2026. The Association is working to ensure the smooth conduct of this prestigious competition.

The MCA has also resolved to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various aspects of its functioning. This initiative is expected to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen data-driven decision-making, and improve administrative processes.

The Apex Council also approved a special bonus for MCA ground staff in recognition of their contribution to maintaining world-class playing conditions during major tournaments. These tournaments include the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the Indian Premier League (IPL), and T20 Mumbai League matches.

According to Mr Ajinkya Naik, President of the MCA, the Apex Council's decisions are guided by three key principles: respect for cricketing heritage, welfare of the cricketing family, and readiness for the future. The MCA will continue to work towards the growth and betterment of cricket in Mumbai.

The adoption of AI is in line with global trends in sports administration and governance. This technology is expected to support cricket development initiatives across the Association. The MCA's decision to adopt AI demonstrates its commitment to modernising and improving its operations.

The bonus for ground staff is a well-deserved recognition of their tireless efforts and commitment to maintaining high-quality playing conditions. The MCA appreciates the professionalism and dedication displayed by the ground staff in ensuring the successful conduct of major tournaments.

The MCA's initiatives demonstrate its commitment to supporting the cricketing community in Mumbai. The pension scheme, AI adoption, and ground staff bonus are all steps towards achieving this goal. The Association will continue to work towards the growth and development of cricket in Mumbai.
