MP GRP Recovers ₹4 Crore with QIRT System

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Madhya Pradesh has introduced the Quick Investigation Reaction Team (QIRT) system to tackle crimes on trains. This system has led to a significant increase in the recovery rate of stolen goods, from around 5% to over 20%.

The QIRT system involves mobilizing a special team immediately after receiving information about a crime. This team assembles at the station preceding the one where the crime occurred and proceeds to the scene while conducting patrols.

During this process, any suspicious individuals encountered are questioned. If a passenger is involved, GRP staff board the train at the next station, visit the specific coach, and register an FIR for the incident right on board.

The QIRT system has been particularly effective in the Bhopal and Jabalpur units, with recoveries of ₹102.29 lakh and ₹292.10 lakh, respectively, between January 1 and July 31, 2026.

In addition to the QIRT system, the GRP has also implemented other measures to improve the recovery rate of stolen goods. These include tracking daily reports and conducting follow-ups on FIRs registered with the GRP.

Every station in-charge has been tasked with calling crime victims to verify the facts regarding cases registered at their respective stations. This ensures that incorrect information is not provided by lower-level GRP staff.

The GRP has also instructed all stations to register FIRs for crimes occurring during travel as 'Zero FIRs' at the station where the journey concludes, and then forward the case diary to the relevant station.

This prevents victims from having to interrupt their journey or travel to the specific station where the crime occurred. Common incidents on trains include the theft of mobile phones, wallets, bags, and jewellery, as well as drugging and robbery.

The GRP has also compiled dossiers on habitual railway offenders, which has accelerated the pace of solving crimes.

Railway crimes are often difficult to crack due to the perpetrators moving far away from the scene of the crime. However, the QIRT system has helped to address this issue, leading to increased recovery rates in the Bhopal and Jabalpur units.

Instructions have been issued to boost this performance in Indore as well. The success of the QIRT system is a significant step forward in tackling crimes on trains and ensuring the safety of passengers.
