Rat Bites Retired Officer On Nose In Una-Indore Express

A bizarre incident was reported from Indore where a 78-year-old retired Class-I officer, HP Karan, was bitten on the nose by a rat while travelling in the First AC coach of the Una-Indore Express. The incident occurred on Sunday night while he was asleep.

Karan was travelling with his family from Chandigarh to Indore and had boarded the train on Saturday. According to his son Vijay, the family spotted a rat inside the coach shortly after boarding the train. They informed the railway staff and also complained about poor cleanliness in the coach.

Railway employees later cleaned the coach, but no pest-control measures were carried out, the family alleged. At around 10.30 pm, Karan was sleeping on his berth when the rat bit him on the nose. The incident caused panic among passengers, and the family immediately informed the railway staff.

After the train reached Indore, Karan’s family took him directly to Kokilaben Hospital. Doctors provided primary treatment and administered the first anti-rabies injection. He was subsequently kept under medical observation.

Mukesh Kumar, public relations officer of the Western Railway’s Ratlam division, said the incident occurred when the train was passing through the Agra railway division. The passenger was provided first aid following the incident. The railway official said the scheduled anti-rodent treatment had been carried out before the train departed from Indore for Una.

He added that the rat may have entered the coach during the journey when a door was left open. The incident has raised concerns about the cleanliness and pest control measures in trains. The railway authorities have been criticized for their failure to prevent such incidents.
