Ujjain Mahakal Sawari Processions Start August 3
Annual processions begin in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Six sawaris to be held during Shravan-Bhadau months.

The annual Shravan-Bhadau month processions of Lord Mahakaleshwar will commence in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on August 3, 2026.
The first sawari of Lord Mahakal will be taken out on Monday, August 3, while the final royal procession will be held on September 7.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ujjain Collector and Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee Chairman Roshan Kumar Singh to discuss arrangements for the processions.
Several important decisions were taken to ensure smooth arrangements and better facilities for devotees.
There will be a total of six sawaris during the Shravan-Bhadau months, with four processions held during Shravan and two during Bhadau. The schedule for the sawaris is as follows: August 3, August 10, August 17, August 24, August 31, and the final royal procession on September 7.
The processions will start after traditional rituals at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple and pass through various city routes, including Mahakal Lok, Gudri Chauraha, and Bakshi Bazaar, before reaching Ram Ghat on the banks of the Shipra River.
After worship at Ram Ghat, the procession will return to the temple through different city routes. The royal procession on September 7 will follow an extended route, passing through Mirza Naeem Beg, Teliwada Chauraha, and other areas before reaching the temple.
During the Shravan-Bhadau period, the timing of the Bhasma Aarti will be changed, with the temple doors opening at 3 am daily and at 2:30 am on Mondays.
Devotees will enter the temple through the Triveni Museum side for general darshan, while special darshan arrangements will be available through Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 5.
Dedicated shoe stands will be set up at several locations, and parking facilities will be available at various spots, including Mahakaleshwar Annakshetra and Meghdoot Van.
Special arrangements have been made for Kanwar pilgrims, who will be allowed to offer water to Lord Mahakal on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the Shravan-Bhadau period.
